Pet therapy is a fast growing field that uses dogs or other animals to help individuals to better cope with health problems, such as heart disease, cancer, dementia, anxiety and various mental health disorders.
Interacting with a friendly pet can help reduce blood pressure and improve overall cardiovascular health. It can also release endorphins that produce a calming effect. This can help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve overall state of mind.
After this interaction with therapy dogs and handlers at DogAbility in Syosset our residents are calmer, smiling, and exhibiting feelings of optimism.
DogAbility is a unique canine-interactive program designed for individuals and groups including seniors, scouts, schools, camps, agencies and those with special needs. Birthday parties with their dogs and sessions for individuals with fear of dogs are also offered.
DogAbility is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization approved for reimbursement of self-directed funds through OPWDD.
